Our philosophy in food photography revolves around a ‘forced spontaneity’ approach, crafting a carefully controlled perspective while maintaining a composition that feels natural and relatable. The goal is to present food in a way that feels real, drawing the viewer into the scene. Take this image we crafted for @Angsana Teluk Bahang, part of the Banyan Tree Group, as an example. This dish was styled to perfection in collaboration with the chef to ensure that every texture, color, and detail was showcased at its finest. From there, we worked around the props and styling as supporting elements to create a scene that enhances the dish. I envisioned a low-angle perspective to highlight the intricate layers of the risotto, set within an elegant dining atmosphere. After numerous rounds of styling experiments and lighting refinements, we achieved this final result. An image that is thoughtfully crafted yet feels authentic and relatable, bridging the gap between the viewer and the food. Understanding the hero of the shot and how the supporting elements play their role is key to building a visually compelling composition.
